Spudos Sustainability

We love crisps, but we love our planet more.

We eat 6 billion bags of crisps every year in the UK alone. Most of those bags can't be recycled and end up in landfill, the ocean or being burned. We wanted to do better.

Our spuds

Spudos crisps are made from potatoes grown on a sustainable farm that runs on solar power, uses biodiesel for its tractors, has its own rain water reservoir, and uses digestate fertiliser.  We ship them in crates over to North London where they're hand-cooked and packed into our home compostable bags ready to be shipped out from our warehouse. We sell every crisp we cook, so we have zero food waste.

Spud Dust

Our Spud Dust is also produced right here in the UK, delivered to us in recyclable plastic bags. Our shakers are made from 30% recycled plastic that can be recycled again and the labels on our shakers are certified ocean bound plastic. We will be offering Spud Dust refills again in the near future so you can reuse your shakers, but we're still working on new refill bags that are as sustainable and resilient as our crisp bags.

Sachets and shake bags

Our Spud Dust sachets are also 100% home compostable, made from a triplex laminate that keeps our dust air tight and dry. Same goes for our greaseproof shake bags, 100% home compostable.

Refillable tubs

We  offer refillable plastic tubs if you want to keep your crisps as fresh as possible in an air tight environment. These tubs can be used for years, and at end of life they can be recycled. So while not ideal, they're still a better option than a traditional crisp bag that can take over 80 years to decompose.

We get lots of things wrong

Many of the items we purchase come wrapped in tons of plastic and we don't have the buying power to dictate anything different. We have to use disposable hairnets and blue roll to meet food hygiene requirements. But we're continually trying to improve and do better and we're always open to any tips you've found that work commercially!

Closed loop delivery

If you're in our London catchment area, we'll deliver your order by cargo bike, picking up any empties from you while we're there.  All crisps will be delivered in our big 2Kg tubs (equivalent of 64 bags of standard crisps).  When we collect the empties, we wash and sterilize them ready for your next delivery.

Remember, it's better to do something, no matter how small, than do nothing at all.
